MORRISON, Nink - Charged with second degree murder in the fatal shooting of Nink Morrison, aged 33, during an altercation near a church in the Glade community east of Rogers and near War Eagle Sunday night, George Dawson, constable of Walnut Township, will be given a preliminary trial here at Bentonville Monday morning of the coming week before F.P. Galbreaith, justice of the peace. Dawson is now at liberty under a $5,000 bond which was fixed after Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Duty of Rogers filed charges against him after his arrest following the shooting of Morrison. Morrison died at Rogers just before reaching a hospital to which he was being rushed in an hour after he is alleged to have been shot by Dawson during an altercation at the Coal Gap church near Glade. Dawson came to Rogers a short time later and surrendered to Sheriff Edgar Fields of Bentonville. The shooting is said to have been the result of Dawson's attempt to quiet a disturbance at the church. Dawson said Morrison and a companion, both of whom were alleged to have been drinking, created a disturbance at the church Friday night but were persuaded to leave. It was alleged they returned again Sunday night and started another altercation which Dawson sought to stop. While the constable was pleading with Morrison's companion to be quiet, it was alleged Morrison struck Dawson over the back of the head with a revolver, inflicting a painful scalp wound. Dawson, it was alleged, turned and fired several times, with each bullet taking effect but not causing Morrison's death for about an hour later although he was shot through the chest and lungs. Morrison, a son of Dink Morrison, was convicted in Benton County circuit court on March 30th, 1927 for the slaying of his cousin, Tom Morrison, son of George Morrison, which occurred near Glade on December 17th, 1926 and was sentenced to seven years in the state penitentiary. He was pardoned how¬ever after serving only a few months of his sentence. Members of the Morrison family, it is understood, charge that Sunday night's affray was the outgrowth of a feud of several years' standing between the Dawson and Morrison families. Morrison is survived by his widow; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dink Morrison of the Glade community; one brother and four sisters. Funeral services were held at the Henson cemetery Monday afternoon.
