Jack Henry "J" Hill, 74, of Hamburg died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Mr. Hill was a lifelong resident of Hamburg, a retiree from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill, a current funeral director's assistant at Cromwell Funeral Home, and a member of Soldiers Chapel AME Church where he was church treasurer, trustee president, and an usher. He was a member of the Mens Sunday School Class, and was also past president of the Usher and Steward Boards. After retiring from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in 1995, he began working at Cromwell Funeral Home as a funeral director's assistant.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice Marie Swinney Hill; one son, Bobby Hill and fiance Lynda of Little Rock; three daughters, Jacqueline Rachal and husband Eugene and Debra Scott, all of Hamburg, and Barbara LaJune Hill of Little Rock; one brother, James Hill of Crossett; eight grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jack Henry Hill, II, his parents, Eugene Augustus & Alice Elizabeth Cason Hill; and three brothers: Eugene Hill, Jr., Bobby Gene Hill, and Augustus Hill.

Funeral services were Monday, April 14, at 11 a.m. in the Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Gwain Hammock, officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Scott, James Adams, Louis Wallace, Lawrence Booker, Curtis Hill, Edward Morgan, Glen Stanley and Ronald Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers are Stewards and Trustees of Soldiers Chapel AME Church. Burial followed services at the Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home.
