Death of James Hill: James Hill, one of the oldest and best citizens of Ashley County, died at Beech Creek last Monday morning, Sept. 3rd, 1906. He was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., April 10th, 1818, and came to this county with his father’s family in 1858. His father, Hon. John Hill, was a native of Tennessee, but emigrated to Alabama when that State was
a Territory, and seven times represented Talladega County in the Legislature, and served under Jackson in the War of 1812, taking part in the Battle of New Orleans. He died at
the age of 75 and was buried in this county. Young James Hill grew to young manhood in Alabama, but all his life since has been spent here. ... Baptist and Mason.
