MAYO, William - Died January 8th at the family residence two and one-half miles southeast of Rogers, William Mayo, in his eighty-fourth year. The deceased was born in Randolph County, Mo. in 1825. At the age of twenty-nine he professed his faith in Christ but never united with any church but always said that James 1-27 was the religion he believed in. At the age of twenty-three years he was married to Rhoda E. Patton. In 1859 he moved to Texas and in 1861 entered the Confederate army and served faithfully for four years. Shortly after the close of the war he moved to Benton county and has lived here ever since. Mrs. Mayo died six months and two days ago. To this union were born nine children, all of them living to have families of their own. Mrs. Ida Cawood died several years ago; Columbus and Logan Mayo of Cumberland, Okla.; Edwin Mayo of Centerton, Ark.; Maggie German, Tishomingo, Okla.; Lizzie Blackburn, Monette, Calif.; William Mayo, Sapulpa, Okla.; Effie Sharp, Springdale, Ark. and Mallie Mayo, Rogers. Brother and Sister Mayo raised one orphan, Forest Ward, who is living and numbered among the mourners. The last six months of Brother Mayo's life was very sad and lonely and he was often heard to remark that he was only waiting for his departure. He was sick less than thirty hours and at 10:30 p.m. on January 8th his spirit took its flight. The funeral services was conducted by Elder J.P. Dillon after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Rogers cemetery to await the summons of Him who is the resurrection and the life. A Friend.

MAYO, Roada Emeline PATTON - Mrs. Emeline Mayo, wife of Wm. Mayo, died Tuesday, July 6th, at her home east of Rogers. Funeral services were held at the home yesterday and were conducted by Rev. Bates of Rogers and Rev. Peter Carnahan of Bentonville. The deceased was 76 years old and was born in Tennessee. She had lived in Benton county for many years and was one of the best known and most popular women in her neighborhood and her death is a great sorrow to a large circle of friends and relatives. She leaves a husband and five children, three sons and two daughters. One son, Mallie Mayo, lives here and there are two sons in Oklahoma. Of the daughters Mrs. Effie Sharp lives at Springdale and Mrs. Blackburn lives in California.

Died, July the 6th at the family residence 21/2 miles southeast of Rogers, Ark., Mrs. Roada Emaline Mayo {nee Patton}, wife of William Mayo, in her seventy seventh year. The deceased was born in Tennessee February 18th, 1833. At the age of six years she moved with her parents to Missouri. When fifteen years of age she professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and united with the C.P. church. In 1848 she was married to William Mayo. They moved to Texas in 1859, from thence to Arkansas where were spent the remaining years of her beautiful life. To this union were born nine children, all of them living to have families of their own. One of them, Mrs. Ida Cawood, died several years ago. Columbus and Logan Mayo of Cumberland, Okla.; Edwin Mayo of Centerton, Ark.; Maggie German, Tishomingo, Okla.; Lizzie Blackburn, Monett, Cal.; William Mayo, Sapulpa, Okla.; Effie Sharp, Springdale, Ark.; Malachi Mayo, Rogers, Ark.; together with the devoted father and husband survive the deceased to mourn their great loss. Brother and Sister Mayo raised one orphan, Forest Ward, who is still living and numbered among the mourners. For 61 years Sister Mayo lived the Christian life and let the light of her influence shine down into the hearts and lives of others. For 51 years she was a faithful and devoted wife and mother, a kind and helping neighbor. During the last eight months of her life she was a great and uncomplaining sufferer. Patiently and resignedly she awaited the end and departed to be with Christ which is far better. The funeral service, conducted by Bro. J.F.E. Bates, assisted by the writer, was well attended by the neighbors and friends and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Rogers cemetery there to await the summons of Him who "is the resurrection and the life." May the comforting Holy Spirit fill the hearts of the sorrowing in this great bereavement. P. Carnahan.
