WALNUT RIDGE -- Funeral services for Mattie Ruth Whitmire, 73, of Walnut Ridge, who died Friday, Nov. 1, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie. Burial will follow at Manning No. 1 Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike McPhail, Danny Promore, Cory Whitmire, Jamus Barnett, Randy Floyd and Bob Heard.
Born in Walnut Ridge, she was a school teacher at the Oak Hill School and was a housewife before moving to Brown City, Mich., where she lived prior to retirement. After retiring, she returned to Walnut Ridge, where she was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Jessie Whitmire of Sulphur Rock; a daughter, Regina Ruth McPhill of Brown City; a brother, Curtis Lamb of Walnut Ridge; seven sisters, Grace Heard, Ester Floyd, Lilly Whitmire and Iva Atkinson, all of Walnut Ridge, Opal Christian of Rock Falls, Ill., Hazel Whitmire of Hoxie and Evelyn Rutledge of Jonesboro; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
