FLINT RIDGE, Okla. — Nathan Stanley Carter, 85, of Flint Ridge died June 15, 2004. He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Henryetta, Okla. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Cecil during the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tulsa for 25 years. He moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1961, where he was employed as general credit manager for Glidden Paint Corp, until retiring in 1974. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, serving as deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. While living in Siloam Springs, he was employed by Peoples Bank and then created a credit department for Allen Canning Co. and served in that capacity for seven years until his retirement at age 79. He taught men's Sunday school at the First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs. He and his wife retired to Flint Ridge.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Minnie Buela Carter; two daughters, Nancy Lee Shehane and husband Jimmie of Plano, Texas, and Diane Kay Ligon and husband Dr. Jerry Ligon of Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Neal Carter of Tulsa.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs with the Rev. Dick McCartney officiating.
Arrangements are by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.
