CARTER, John - {from The Siloam Springs Herald} Some time ago John Carter and his two sons, Frank and Roy, left Iowa to seek a home in the southwest. They came to Oklahoma and after staying for a time came to Siloam Springs. From here they went to Washington county and then returned to our city. The father was suffering from serious derangement of the heart that at times threatened his life. They brought with them several teams of horses and an opportunity presented itself for Frank, the oldest son, to take a team and go to work. Frank was not stout and the weather being extremely hot, the father advised him not to try it, but the boy was ambitious to be earning his $2.50 a day and so went to work, but broke down the second day, taking his bed with an attack of typhoid fever. While the father was waiting on the sick boy he fell dead one day last week and was buried from the camp house. The sick boy grew worse and on last Saturday about 12 o'clock passed to his final reward and on Monday was laid to rest by the side of his father in Oak Hill cemetery. Reverend W.H. Gannaway, recently from Columbia River Conference, Washington, was called to officiate at the funeral of both father and son. John Carter was a Union soldier in the war of the Rebellion and we understand contracted heart trouble in the line of duty. Roy, the younger boy, is left in our midst alone, and certainly deserves the sympathy of the community after passing through so severe an ordeal and we trust will receive that sympathy.
