Mr. Daniel "Don" C. Cockrum
December 4, 1938 - September 21, 2012
Daniel C. "Don" Cockrum, 73, of Cotter, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 in Mountain Home. Mr. Cockrum was born December 4, 1938 in Mountain Home to Peter A. and R. Evelyn (Gillispie) Cockrum. He served his country in the United States Navy. On October 7, 1958 he married Janice L. McCracken in Reno, Nevada. Mr. Cockrum also served the citizens of Baxter County as sheriff and tax collector, county treasurer, and administrative assistant to the county judge. He was the former owner of the Dogwood Grocery and Laundry, and Economy Tire. He also had worked for a time at Young Sales & Construction in St. Louis, Missouri.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Cockrum, of the home, daughters Christy (Carl) Pope of Canton, Georgia, and Collette (Sammy) Chandler of Bull Shoals, grandchildren Russ (Paige) Chandler, Carl Jr. and Ben Pope, Courtney (Donnie) Wallace, Tracey (Justin) Moore, Kelly (Ben) Thomason and Aaron (Traci) Hughes, 13 great grandchildren, sisters Maxine Cox of Wichita, Kansas, Nadine Griffin of Warsaw, Missouri and Bonnie Conner of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and a brother, Frank Cockrum of Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill Cockrum, Arlie Cockrum, Bob Cockrum and Arvil Cockrum.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Ozarks in Mountain Home, or Baptist Health Foundation in Little Rock, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
