GILBERT, Samuel David - Last Thursday noon marked the passing of one of this community's pioneer settlers, Samuel David Gilbert, who died at his home near the Bozarth school house Dec. 11th. The deceased was born in Calloway county, Missouri July 15, 1851, spending the early part of his life in that county where he received the greater part of his education while he worked to help support his widowed mother. At the age of 18 he moved to Carthage, Mo. where he later met and married Mary Anne Senora Whitaker. To this union were born five daughters and one son, all of whom are living and were present at his funeral which was held from the home Saturday afternoon, directed by Pyeatte's, with burial in the Bozarth cemetery. After living near Rogers, Ark. for a period of two years Mr. Gilbert and his family moved to Siloam Springs and five years later, in 1890, they moved to the place of his residence at the time of his death. Mr. Gilbert held the respect of all who knew him and he had an enviable reputation for his honesty and fairness with all his fellowmen. He professed his Saviour in 1919 after which his integrity in his faith was as devoted as was his earnestness in every other walk of life. He was for several years a leader in religious services and his influence will live in the community where he was a resident. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. S.D. Gilbert, six children: Mrs. J.E. Garrett, Cushing, Okla.; Mrs. Alva Hall and Mrs. Will Roberts, Gentry, Ark.; Mrs. Ervie Akin, Stillwater, Okla.; Mrs. Frank Tiffee, Howe, Okla.; Galen Gilbert, Talihina, Okla. and 18 grandchildren. A Friend.
