Raymond O. Yancey Dies Near Oxford

Raymond Otis Yancey a son of the late William and Sarah Jane Porterfield Yancey was born near Oxford April 12, 1900 and passed away at his home near Oxford September 12, 1963 at the age of 63 years and five months.

His entire life was spent near Oxford.

He was married February 20, 1921 to Miss Agnes Stuart who survives him. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Sarah Yancey of Oxford; six brothers, Reuben Yancey of Violet Hill; Alva Yancey of Franklin; Maxie Yancey of Pineville; Houston Yancey of Evening Shade; Shelby Yancey of Salem; also one sister, Mrs. Earl (Ester) McVey of Oxford, numerous other relatives and many friends.

He had been a member of the Baptist Church for a number of years.

Funeral services for the deceased were held Sunday afternoon, September 15 in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church by his pastor and cousin, Eld. LeRoy Porterfield and the Rev. Stanley Cooper. The song service was directed by Revel Simmons with Billy Neal at the Piano.

Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery by Carter Funeral Service of Salem with Al and Mae Pomeroy in charge.

Pallbearers were Ed Kankey, Jeff Barnes, Ceborn Weston, Ernest Helm, Remmel Taylor and Hearl Sherrell.
