Shelby Yancey 87 of Oxford, son of the late William Yancey and Sarah Porterfield, died April 19, 1993 at White River Health Care in Calico Rock. He was born August 8, 1905 in Oxford.
He was united in marriage to Lela Reynolds on October 3, 1924 and to this union two daughters were born. Mrs. Yancey preceded him in death. He married Lela Dillard on July 7, 1977 at Melbourne.
He spent his working years as a farmer and carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his wife, Lela of the home; one daughter, Wilma Rains and husband Don; one granddaughter, Deborah Cope; two great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Melissa, both of Kansas City, Missouri,; three stepsons, Carroll, James and Sam Dillard; two step-daughters, Jewell Story and Millie Helm; 15 step-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther McVey of Calico Rock. He was preceded in death by his first wife, one infant daughter, his parents, eight brothers and two sisters.
Services were held Thursday April 22, 1993, at 2 p.m. at the Oxford Baptist Church with Brother Duane Flood officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ron Helm, Jesse Cope and Ted “Tiny” Blevins.
Pallbearers were Joseph Story, Tommy Norvold, Gary Dillard, Danny Dillard, Terry Dillard and Bo Story.
Burial followed in the Oxford Cemetery under the direction of the McGee-Estes Funeral Home of Salem.
