Leonard Virgil Yancey son of Walter Burton Yancey and Margaret Melvina "Vinney" (Porterfield) Yancey. Vernie Inez (Dockins) Yancey daughter of Robert Lee Dockins and Nola Bell (Morgan) Dockins.Leonard was born in Izard County, Arkansas he died in Salem, Fulton County, Arkansas.

Leonard Yancey of Melbourne, son of the late Walter and Vina Porterfield Yancey died December 1, 1997 at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem. He was 83.

Mr. Yancey was a retired Baptist Minister and a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Laverne Carpenter of Oxford and Shirley Williams of Gamaliel; three sisters, Alpha Simmons of Melbourne; Edna Smith of Evening Shade; and Vellie Neal of Salem; six grandchildren, Dewayne Carpenter of Oxford; Arlene Brown of Melbourne; Tracey Hutchins of Gamaliel; and Kenneth Williams of Gamaliel; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernie Inez Dockins Yancey; his parents, three brothers, Hubert Yancey, Almon Yancey and Autley Yancey and two sisters, Effie Simmons and Elsie Weston.

Funeral services were held December 3, 1997 at Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with Reverend Gail Johnson officiating.

Pallbearers were Harold Carpenter, Randy Carpenter, Chad Brown, Michael Hutchins, Kenneth Williams and Bob Hollaway.

Interment was at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.

Vernie Inez Dockins Yancey of Melbourne, daughter of the late Robert and Nola Morgan Dockins, died April 8, 1997 in Jonesboro hospital. She was 82.

Mrs. Yancey was a homemaker and a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Reverend Leonard Yancey of Melbourne; two daughters, Laverne Carpenter of Oxford and Shirley Williams of Mountain Home; one brother, R. W. Dockins of Franklin; one sister, Lois Davis of Oxford; six grandchildren, DeWayne Carpenter of Pangburn, Harold Carpenter of Violet Hill, Randy Carpenter of Oxford, Arlene Brown of Melbourne, Tracey Fuller of Mountain Home and Kenneth Williams of Mountain Home and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Solen Dockins and one sister, Beatrice Dockins.

Funeral services were held April 10, 1997 at Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with Reverend Gail Johnson and Reverend Carl Cravens officiating.

Pallbearers were DeWayne Carpenter, Harold Carpenter, Randy Carpenter, Chad Brown, Michael Hutchins and Kenneth Williams.

Interment was at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Crouch Funeral Home in Melbourne.
