MOORE, John Ealey - J.E. Moore, residing in the east part of town, died on Thursday of last week and the remains were interred in the Wilson cemetery the following day, services being conducted by Wm. Martin. He was an honest and upright citizen, quiet and unobtrusive, and had many friends. A friend of Mr. Moore furnishes The News the following sketch of his life: John Ealey Moore was one of the pioneers of Maine {should this be Minnesota?), having settled there in an early day. During the Indian war of 1860 and 61 he was a member of the company known as the Minnesota Rangers who so noble defended their state and when the Indian trouble was settled Mr. Moore joined the Union army and went south, serving faithfully until the close of the war when he returned to his family who still resided in Root River Valley. He resided here for about eight years when he moved to Atler (Otter?) Tail County. He was one of the number who helped to organize the township and was one of the first supervisors. About the year 1889 Mr. Moore, tiring of the cold winters of the north, took his family to Springdale, Ark. where he passed the remainder of his life peacefully, respected by all who knew him. He was born June 6, 1823 in New York state. The deceased was the father of seven children, three of whom, together with his wife, survive him. He was a believer in Christ but like many independent thinkers, chose not to unite with any particular church.
