Obituary for Billie Ray "Bill" McCollum:

Billie Ray "Bill" McCollum, of Oxford, Ark., son of the late Henry and Ofie (Gilliland) McCollum was born in Violet Hill, Ark., on March 24, 1924. He died Aug. 24, 2007, at the age of 83. He was united in marriage to Wilma Gaye Floyd on March 21, 1951, and to this union four daughters and one son were born.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and spent his working years providing for his family as a farmer,
logger, roofer and retired from the Arkansas State Highway Department as a crew leader. He was a friend to the community, delivering Cave City
watermelons and strawberries from his garden to friends and family, and he loved a good visit. He was a member of the Forest Chapel Methodist Church of Viola Hill.

He is survived by: his wife, Wilma Gaye of the home; his children, Novela Scribner and husband, Tommy of Salem, Betty Crump and husband, Clay of Kirby, Ark., Jack McCollum of Oxford and Anna Osburn and husband, Mike 'Oz' of Fayetteville, N.C.; his grandchildren, Chris Cochran and wife, Niki, Grady Scribner and wife, Nancy; John Scribner and wife, Leslie; Casey Scribner and wife, Whitney, Lasha McCollum, Jessica Crump, BJ McCollum, Sarah Crump, Levi Osborn and Daniel Osburn; his great-grandchildren, Emma Scribner, Grace Cochran, Brayden Scribner, Mary Cochran, Owen Scribner, Ava Osburn and William Ryder Scribner; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ofie McCollum; two
sisters, Wilma Webb and Cleva Taylor; and an infant daughter, Alice Karen.

Graveside services were held Aug. 27 at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Ark. Interment followed in the Oxford Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.

Pallbearers were Chris Cochran, Grady Scribner, John Scribner, Casey
Scribner, Lasha McCollum, Jessica Crump, JB McCollum, Sarah Crump, Levi
Osburn and Daniel Osburn.
