Betty Lou McCollum, 77, of Violet Hill, died Monday, April 9, 2012 in Mountain Home.
Born on March 27, 1935 in Violet Hill, she was the daughter of Ruble and Ruth (Mathis) Smith.
She graduated from Violet Hill High School. She and her husband owned Violet Hill Grocery Store and she was the secretary at Wiseman Methodist Church. She was strong-willed and very outspoken but was very inspiring to others. Talking to her friends was one of favorite pastimes as well as frequent family gatherings and cooking. She was very artistic and liked painting sceneries and people. She also liked playing instruments. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby McCollum of Violet Hill; a son, Don McCollum and his wife, Beverly of Violet Hill; two daughters: Pamela McCollum and Liz Smith and her husband, Toby of Melbourne; seven grandchildren: Keifer Smith, Kerby Smith, Brad McCollum, Nathan McCollum, Jim Stevens, Jenny Callahan, and Ashley McCarty; and four great-grandchildren: Emily Callahan, Katie Callahan, Josh McCarty, and Raigen McCarty.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Shirley Garner.
The family wishes to thank Hospice House for the care that was received.
Cremation services are by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home in Melbourne.
