(from The Rogers Republican, 30th ult.)
Wm. Webb, brother of Mrs. A.B. Stroud of this city, and an old resident of Pea Ridge, died Tuesday night at 8 o'clock from the effects of injuries in falling off of a load of apple barrels. The funeral was held Wednesday. Rev. Peter Carnahan conducting the services and the remains being buried in the Hickman cemetery. He went to Avoca Monday afternoon to get a load of apple barrels. He was seen at the top of the hill the other side of Avoca, pounding the tire of his wagon and then got in to drive on. The next notice of him was his team going down hill at a fast rate seemingly trying to keep out of the way of the wagon, and the neck yoke broke. The wagon went to one side of the road and threw him off, running over him and also cutting some gashes on his head. Physicians were called but he only lingered about 24 hours longer. He was 78 years old, lived with his daughter and her two children, his wife being dead. He was a highly respected citizen of that section and well known. Mrs. A.B. Stroud and J. W. Stroud went up at once and remained until Wednesday.

William Woodson Webb, the subject of this sketch, was born in Bedford county, Tenn. Nov. 14th, 1819. He was married to Nancy C. Dunlap Sept.17th, 1846. To them were born three children, two daughters and one son; the son and one daughter had gone some years before him. He came to Pea Ridge, Ark. early in the fifties, located his home and there remained until his death Sept. 28th, 1897. Though 78 years of age he was in his physical constitution well preserved and remarkedly active. He seemed to have the promise of several years of useful life before him when he was suddenly and fatally injured by a fall occasioned by a fractious and running team. He was esteemed and beloved by all who knew him. He stood by the right and opposed the wrong, helped the helpless and needy, the poor, the widow, the fatherless and the orphan. He loved the Church and supported it by his presence and his means. A good man has fallen, a strong pillar of our society has been removed and we all feel deeply the loss of a life so faithful, so useful and precious. To the only living daughter and the dear grandchildren and kindred all we would say, you have the sympathy and condolence of us all and especially the blessed Christ who not only sympathizes with you but is able to help you with his all-sufficient grace. P. Carnahan.
