Nadine Copeland, 82, of Conway died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Conway.

Born Oct. 28, 1919, in LaCrosse, she was the daughter of John Franklin Jennings and Grace Wiles Jennings. She was a retired sales clerk with Ben Franklin 5 and 10 Cent Store and of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include two sons, John Copeland Jr. of Wichita, Kan., and Marcus Copeland of Conway; two sisters, Lola Campbell of Newton, Kan., and Lenora McDaniel of Augusta, Kan.; two brothers, Eugene Jennings of Sage and Ancil Jennings of Wichita; and five grandchildren, Nicole Copeland, Kelley Copeland, Carson Copeland, Kinsey Copeland and Julia Copeland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Copeland; two sisters; and a brother.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Melbourne Church of Christ with Chuck Crow officiating. Burial was in Caney Creek Cemetery with arrangements by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.

Pallbearers were James Smith, Roger Smith, Josh Jennings, Terry Jennings, David Jennings and Randy Haney.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Blankenship, Fred Blankenship, David Clark, Shelby Qualls, Danny Brightwell, Bill Roland, Tommy Taylor, Jim Cooper, Ken Bond and Danny Beebe.

MELBOURNE - Nadine Copeland, 82, of Conway died Thursday, March 21, 2002. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Melbourne Church of Christ.

Burial will follow in Caney Springs Cemetery near Melbourne.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.

She lived in Independence County until May 1998 when she and her husband, Charles Raymond Varnell, moved to North Little Rock to be near their daughter due to their failing health.
A 1952 graduate of Arkansas College (now Lyon College), she retired from the Batesville School District in 1977 after teaching elementary school for 35 years. She was a member of the Arkansas Education Association, National Education Association, Independence County Retired Teachers Association and AARP. She was a charter member of Southside United Methodist Church where she taught adult Sunday school and was active in many other activities. Since moving to North Little Rock, she attended Lakewood United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Builders Sunday school class.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Shearer of North Little Rock; a son-in-law, Jay Shearer; a beloved grandson, Alex Varnell Shearer; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edward Cleburne Stewart and Mary Magdalene "Mollie" Mayhue Stewart; her husband; three sisters and six brothers.

During her long battle with cancer, her constant courage, positive attitude, independent spirit and enduring faith was an inspiration to all who knew her. Special thanks to Dr. William Morton and Dr. Brad Baltz.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Southside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Kyler Cemetery in Southside under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Monday, Eddie Monday, Tim Stewart, Wesley Stewart, Jay Slayden, Gordon Harmon, Keith Harmon and Steve Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sanford Priest, Ed Hager, Gay Lacy III and her nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
