ROBBERY VICTIM DIES
A Tulsa woman injured June 19 when she attempted to resist a pruse snatcher as she walked home from work, died today in Hillbrest Medical Center.
During surgery for the broken bones, Mrs. Lane went into cardiac arrest, then into a comma.
A machine had been breathing for her since Wednesday, and doctors had given her family little hope.
Mrs. Lane was a housewife and day care center worker. Mary Jo Griffin, owner of the day care center said Mrs. Lane had been employed there about two years.
'Gussie was the backbone of the evening staff,' Mrs. Griffin said. 'She was a tiny woman, but she kenw how to handle the children with love and tenderness, rather than with force. The children loved her.'
The purse snatcher, described by witnesses as an Indian or Mexican male with shoulder length hair, is still at large. Witnesses to the incident said the man picked up the tiny woman and threw her to the ground. Mrs. Lane was five feet one and weighed 100 pounds.
Surviving are her husband, Andrew; three daughters, Mrs. James (Vera) Reeves of Whittier, CA, Mrs. Kenneth (Rella) Brown of Eureka, KS and Mrs. Elvin (Beverly) Neal of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; a son Jimmie of 6928 E. Eighth St.; her mother, Mrs. Essie Sisk of Norfork, AR; five sisters and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3PM Monday in Moore's Eastlawn Chapel. Another service will be held Tuesday in Old Joe, AR, where burial will take place.
