Samuel (Sam) Clifford Jeffus was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 17, 1937. Sam was raised in Camden, Arkansas. He spent much of his childhood traveling from Arkansas to Detroit and had many fond memories of his family there.

Sam passed from this Earth into Heaven on June 10, 2024, leaving behind his faithful caretaker and wife, Mrs. Leta Jeffus; his son Doug Chambliss and daughter-in-law Pam, daughter Debbie Taylor, stepdaughters Sheri Lardizabal, Janice Kraft, Beverly Robertson, Roni Pennington, Lori Turley, Teri Cox-Meadows, and son-in-law Bryan K. Meadows; a host of grands and some great grands. He was preceded in death by his son Samuel Dondi Jeffus.

Sam was a man of many talents and passions. He was an avid fix-it-man, capable of building a house or putting a car together from the frame up. His love for tinkering was only surpassed by his love for animals and nature. He had a special place in his heart for the creatures of the world, rescuing and bottle-feeding squirrels, chipmunks, and dogs. He would feed anything from a school of catfish to the birds and deer, a testament to his true nature. This love for animals kept him out of the hunting woods, but he never minded a good fishing trip. He passed peacefully in his home with his best friend, a little chiweenie named Johnny, and his big dog Buddy, who were right by his side.

Sam’s commitment to service never wavered. He left high school and joined the United States Air Force, where he served his country as a loyal patriot. His military service was later carried out in the Reserves. He loved the travel and discipline of the service and often told stories of his military buddies. Sam served as a United States Postal Worker for almost three decades and walked thousands of miles as a letter carrier throughout Central Arkansas, in Little Rock and Bryant.

After retiring, Sam moved back towards home and settled at White Oak Lake in Chidester. There, he lived the life he loved, building, tinkering, fishing, and serving others. He was known for going out of his way to help widows and the elderly in need. On February 2, 2020, Sam was baptized into the Kingdom of God and became a faithful member of Chidester Baptist Church.

His services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 2 P.M. with visitation starting at 1 P.M. at Chidester Baptist Church in Chidester, AR. His beloved pastor, Bro. David Collins will be officiating the service.

A very special thank you to OCMC Hospice and Home Health, especially Dr. Braden, Dr. Lewis, Elana Myers, RN, and Becky Dorey for taking such good care of Sam these last few months.

Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
