Hugh Wayne Jeffus, age 84, of Camden, Arkansas passed away peacefully January 17th at his home. He was born, September 2, 1933 at the Jeffus homestead, the first born son of Virgil and Dorothy Jeffus. He lived and worked his entire life in the Camden area. He devoted his life to God, family, friends and helping others.

He graduated from Fairview High School in 1951 and immediately began a 25 year career with International Paper Company. After retiring in 1975, he joined his son and brother in the Construction and Forestry Site Preparation business.

He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Mona Ree Rogers in 1952 and they had celebrated 65 years of marriage in August. He enjoyed traveling and watching sporting events, especially watching two of his grandsons play baseball in high school and college. One of his greatest thrills was attending the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska to watch one of his grandsons play. He was an avid Razorback fan and loved traveling all over to watch the Hogs play. Earlier in life he enjoyed taking cruises, traveling to Hawaii, Mexico and Canada, with family and friends. He was the epitome of a "Workaholic", even after retiring, he spent most of his time working, and gardening in his yard. He loved the outdoors.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he had served on many committees, i. e. Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, Building Committee and was a member of the Rose Couples Sunday School Class, where he had served as President. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and past president of the Camden Shriners Club.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Dorothy Jeffus, a son Walter Dale Jeffs, two special brothers-in-law, Kenneth Renfro and Walter Rogers, and his mother-in-law, Avis Ables Rogers, numerous other friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Mona Jeffus, a son, Michael Jeffus (Donna), Texarkana, daughter, Stephanie Jeffus Clyde (Steve) Houston, TX, three grandsons, Chris (Keene) Jeffus, Garrett and Grant (Nikki) Clyde, one granddaughter, Kenna Jeffus, two step granddaughters, Amber Runion (Danny) and Amanda Buffington and six great grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters Ann J. Young and Ruth Renfro and a brother Rudy Jeffus (Vicki); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Hugh was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by everyone that knew him.

Services will be held on Sunday, January 21 at 2.00 at The First United Methodist Church, Camden with Rev. Buddy Ratliff officiating. Burial to follow at the Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation Saturday evening from 5-7 at Proctor Funeral Home.
