Nelda
November 30, 1936 - October 17, 2019
Married: December 22, 1955
On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Nelda Jane Murphy Wooten went to be with the Lord at the age of 82. She was born November 30, 1936 to Davis and Evie (Danford) Murphy near Urbana.
Nelda worked at Cooper Tire, delivered bulk mail for the USPS, and owned the Snack Shack in Urbana for several years, but her favorite jobs came in the form of family—wife, mother, and Mamaw. She married J. Avon Wooten in December of 1955 and took great pride in taking care of her home and family. A great southern cook, she was known by her family for the love and food that she shared with them each time they stepped through her door. She found complete happiness in the simplicity of a grandbaby on her lap and could always make them smile, giggle, or sleep with the sound of her voice and a good rocking chair.
A member of Murmil Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Bill, Harold, and D.P. Murphy, Hazel Roberts, Ruby Shairrick, and a stepson, Dale Wooten. She is survived by children, Donna Hill (Ken), Barry Wooten (Teresa), Philip (Kabo) Wooten (Tina); stepson, Kenny Wooten; daughter-in-law, Billie Wooten; siblings, Patsy Rodgers, Gene and Troy Murphy; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19 at Murmil Baptist Church in El Dorado followed by Interment at Green Grove Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Callaway and staff, Dr. Schrader and staff, and all of the special staff at Lifetouch Hospice who helped take such good care of her.
