Maurice Wayne Carter, 74, of Fort Smith, brother of James Carter of Clarksville, died Monday, June 21, 1999, in Fort Smith.

He was a native of Altus,AR. son of the late Elmer and Archie Garner Carter, father of the late James Allen Carter, a retired electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 700, a member and past president of I.B.E.W. Local 700, an instructor with the Fort Smith Electrical J.A.T.C. for 30-plus years and a member of the Fort Smith Electrical Examining Board.

He wired the first generator at the Ozark dam and supervised the wiring of the SGL Carbon Corporation.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Company B 71st Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division. He saw action in northern France, Germany and Austria and was awarded three Battle Stars and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was a member of Midland Heights United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margaret Ann Doss Carter; two sons, Carroll and Burl of Fort Smith, AR.; one sister, Joan Shuller of McAlester, Okla.; four other brothers, Donald Carter of Tulsa, Okla., Earl Carter of Sherwood, Claud Carter of Ozark,AR., and Carroll Carter of Fort Smith, Ar.; and two grandsons, Burl Carter Jr. of Fort Smith and Chris Carter of Fayetteville.

Margaret Ann Carter, 80, of Fort Smith, passed away Sunday in Fort Smith. She was born August 13, 1934 in Coal Hill, AR to the late Tommy and Agnes Doss. She was retired PBX Operator at Hiland Dairy and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Maurice Wayne Carter and a son James Allen Carter.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 17th, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church with burial at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

She is survived by two sons Carroll Doss Carter of Fort Smith, AR and Burl Carter and wife Debbie of Fort Smith, AR, one sister Jo Miller of Oskaloosa, KS, two grandsons Burl Carter, Jr. of Fort Smith and Chris Carter and wife Carmen of Bentonville, AR and two great grandsons Dylan and Drew Carter.
