Melba Moore, 81, of McAlester, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at her home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with Richard Cress officiating. Committal services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Valley Cemetery near Greenwood, Ark. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Born Feb. 7, 1929, in Hackett, Ark., she was the daughter of George Dewey and Edna J. (Findley) Peoples. She grew up in Fort Smith, Ark., where she graduated high school. She married James Lee "Jim" Moore on Feb. 15, 1948, in Fort Smith and they lived in Oklahoma City for a few years before coming to McAlester. She had lived here for more than 50 years. She worked as secretary for Dr. Joe McCauley for more than 30 years until he retired. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, sewing and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Carol J. Moore, of Muskogee, Michael S. "Mike" Moore, of McAlester, Jimmy D. Moore and his wife, Lisa, of Indianola, and Donna S. Contreras and her husband, Mike, of Oklahoma City. Also, 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marva Dean Dorrough, Lavaca, Ark.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Ruby Peoples, of Texas, and James L. "Jim" and Linda Peoples, of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Moore; a son, Larry Moore; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Clanton, William James Huggins, Lars Clawson and Lauren Clawson, and two sisters, Zelma Brewer and Oleta Cress. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
