James Garland Thomas, 62, of 1115 W. Oak died Sunday in a Shreveport, La. hospital. He was born July 11, 1910 in Lillie, La., the son of James Cornelius and Sally Dison Thomas. He was a retired Chief of Police for the city of El Dorado and was constable of El Dorado township at the time of his death. He had been a resident of El Dorado for 29 years, and was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margerete Cater Thomas, a son, Jim Thomas, of Pine Bluff; two brothers, John Thomas and Carl Thomas, both of Junction City, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Vida Smith of El Dorado and Mrs. Lois Dettenheim of Spearsville; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Young's Chapel with Rev. Bruce Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Junction City, Ark., under the direction of Young's. A flag presentation will be made at graveside by Roy V. Kinard Post 10 of the American Legion. (The El Dorado Times - March 5, 1973)
