CARPENTER, Mary A. - Mrs. Mary A. Carpenter, wife of George Carpenter, a Bentonville plumber, died at her home on South A street last Friday noon after an illness of two years. She was 58 years of age. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon, the Rev. M.A. Fine conducting the services. Burial was made in the Bentonville Cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Omaha, Neb. in 1874. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter came here from Kansas in 1918. For many years they lived on the W.T. Dudley farm southwest of Bentonville where Mrs. Carpenter made handmade rugs and wove carpets on her loom. She gained quite a reputation in her handicraft and sold many of her products to tourists. Later the family moved to Bentonville where she resumed her art and operated an antique shop. Her husband resumed his trade as plumber, his nephew, Marion Pierce, being associated with him in his work. Mrs. Carpenter has been semi-invalid for the past year of more. Besides her husband she is survived by her grandsons, Marion and Lewis Pierce, also by two sisters and another grandson in Indiana.
