Edward “Skip” Francis Murphy, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. He was born in Rochester, PA on June 12, 1939 to Laura Virginia Dawson and Edward Francis Murphy, Sr. He was raised by his Grandfather, Frank Dawson, and his Aunt, Lois “Grantie” Dawson. Skip married Patricia Lynn Carothers on September 9, 1961.

He grew up in Midland, PA, and in 1959, he then ventured all the way to Siloam Springs, AR to obtain his business degree at John Brown University. There he made a home with Patty and raised two wonderful children, Scott Eric Murphy and Lesa Lynn Murphy Cross. Upon graduating, he took the office of Assistant Business Manager and Financial Aid Director. Skip had a hand in creating the financial aid system for students in the State of Arkansas. He was an avid supporter of the Golden Eagles sports teams and played a large role with The Sound Generation a musical touring group that represented John Brown University. He was the President of the Arkansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators from 1972-1973, as well as the President of the Student Loan Guarantee Foundation of Arkansas in 1982. Skip also proudly served as President of the Siloam Springs Rotary Club from 1975-1976. After retiring from John Brown University, he spent a year in Dallas as Financial Aid Director for Southern Methodist University. He then returned to Siloam Springs and used his construction skills to build and remodel homes all over Northwest Arkansas with his son, Scott, for the next 36 years.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Anthony DeLucio.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Lynn Carothers, son, Eric Scott Murphy (Brandi), daughter, Lesa Lynn Murphy Cross (Waco), three grandsons, Bryce Landon Murphy, Canyon Blue Cross, and Declan Samuel Murphy, as well as his bonus grandchildren, Derick Latham and Sara Ingram Mycka, and numerous other relatives and cousins.

Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Siloam Springs, AR.
