SPRINGDALE — Gerald Dean Porter, 84, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. Gerald was born on Feb. 26, 1933, in Brentwood, Ark., a son of Leonard Floyd Porter and Mable Myrtle Mills Porter.

He married Edna Mae Preston on June 27, 1959, at the Baldwin Church of Christ. Gerald served honorably in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He then went to work for 30 years at the University of Arkansas Physical Plant.

He was a master carpenter and also enjoyed hunting and gardening. Gerald was a member of the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ and an elder for over 20 years. He was active and very passionate about their Missions Teams. He mentored many and was loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edna Preston Porter; two daughters, Susan and husband Tracy Taylor of Russellville, Ark., and Sharon and husband Royce Bailey of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; two brothers, Leon and Darrel Porter both of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Zach Taylor (Stephanie), Kelsey Hodges (H. Clay), Grayson Taylor (Amanda), Colby Bailey, Connor Bailey, and Karaline Bailey; one great-grandchild, Pierce Taylor.

Visitation will be held at the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ on Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Harry Fitzgerald will officiate the service with burial being held at the Brentwood Cemetery under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.

SPRINGDALE — Edna Mae Porter, 80, of Springdale, passed away on Nov. 4, 2018, at the Willard Walker Hospice Home. She was born on April 22, 1938, at Mt. Gaylor to Hancle and Jessie Parrish Preston.

Edna was a secretary at Bear Brand Hosiery Co., graduated from the U of A, then taught in the Springdale School System for 23 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald of 58 years, one sister, Frances Hughes, one brother, Fred Preston. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Taylor and husband Tracy of Russellville and Sharon Bailey and husband Royce of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; one sister, Winnifred Collins of Yorba Linda, Calif.; six grandchildren, Zach (Stephanie) Taylor, Grayson (Amanda) Taylor, Kelsey (H. Clay) Hodges, Colby, Connor and Karaline Bailey; two great-grandchildren, Pierce Lincoln and Quinn Porter Taylor.

Edna was a member of the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ. She worked several years with World Bible School and the Prison Ministry. The family would like to express a special thanks to Tom and Marilyn, Marcia, Lester, Julie, the staff at Fayetteville HOG, the girls at WRMC Infusion Center, the kind staff at Willard Walker Hospice Home and the many others who offered help and support during Edna's battle with Leukemia.

Memorials may be given to Robinson Avenue Church of Christ, 1506 W. Robinson Ave., Springdale, Ark. 72764. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the church on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. with Harry Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Brentwood Cemetery in Brentwood, Ark.

Pallbearers include Colby and Connor Bailey, Tracy, Zach and Grayson Taylor, Clay Hodges, Tom Kilpatrick, Benny Kilpatrick, Lester Wilkinson and Mark Passmore. Honorary pallbearers are nephews, Mike Hughes and James Collins. To sign the online guest book please visit www.backstrom-pyeatte.com.
