Mary Ruth Thurman, born November 24, 1929, passed away on December 27, 2020, at the home of her niece, Susan Bowden Harris in the Prairie Grove Community. . She was the daughter of the late Charlie Allen Thurman and Elma Pearl Wells Thurman and was born and lived her entire life in the Prairie Grove Community on Long Prairie in Drew County, Arkansas. She graduated from Drew Central High and was a member of the Prairie Grove SBC Church where she served as the secretary of the Sunday School department for many years. A great deal of her life was spent caring for her widowed father & helping him on the family farm. Until her eyesight failed, she was an avid reader, gardener & quilter.
She was preceded in death by a sister Charlsie Maynell (C. Nell) Thurman of the Prairie; and two brothers: Cecil Allen Thurman of the Prairie and Winfred Everett Thurman of Booneville, Mississippi. She is survived by a sister, Ouida Christine (Clifford) Bowden of the Prairie and Billy Joe Thurman (Carol Jean) of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews; her beloved dog, Katie; and special friends, Virginia Robinson and Alice Merle High. The family would like to also give special thanks to Drew Memorial Hospital Home Health for their care along with her nieces, Susan Harris, Nikki Williams, Laci Marter and Staci James.
Graveside service will be 9:00 a.m. Monday December 28, 2020, at Lacey Cemetery.
