*Mr. Thurman's headstones state his birth and death dates as November 13th, however his obituary listing states his birth date as December 15, 1927.

E.L. “Doby” Thurman, 89, of Bastrop, Louisiana, died Monday, November 13, 2017. Mr. Thurman was a native of Lacey and a resident of the Log Cabin community outside of Bastrop, Louisiana for the past 67 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, he worked for International Paper for 43 years, having retired in 1988 and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Doby was an avid fisherman and hunter and a member of the Thurman Deer Camp.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jean White Thurman in 1991; his parents, J.C. “Collie” and Bonnie Hackney Thurman; four brothers, Adrian, Laron “Wink”, Marshall and Jimmy Carl Thurman.
He is survived by two sons, Lamar Thurman and wife, Gloria, of Crossett and Bobby Thurman and wife, Gail, of Bastrop, Louisiana; a daughter, Drucilla Wall and husband, Frank, of Bastrop, Louisiana; two brothers, Charles “Bitty” Thurman and Keith Thurman both of Lacey; two sisters, May Carter of Crossett and Fay Wilhite of Lacey; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial are 2 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017 in the Lacey Cemetery with Bro. Andy Myrick officiating Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Thurman Deer Camp.
Visitation will be 1:30 – 2 pm., Thursday at the cemetery.
