November 1, 1853 - September 12, 1932
J. H. Pickett aged 79, well known Ouachita County citizen and former tax assessor died at his home on Country Club Road west of Camden Monday. Death was due to heart failure. He had been in ill health for several years. Mr. Pickett was born in this county on November 1, 1853 and has been a life-long resident He served four years as tax assessor over 30 years ago. He also held other important positions in the county. Mr. Pickett was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements have not been completed and will not be announced until a daughter, Mrs. W. W. Adams of McCleary, Washington arrives here. Mr. Pickett is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Robert Siders of Camden, and Mrs. A. T. Barrett of Little Rock; one brother, Ed Pickett of Dallas, Texas, and one sister, Mrs. W. C. Smith of Chidester and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many friends throughout the county and South Arkansas mourn the death of Mr. Pickett. (Camden News - September 13, 1932)
