''Royce Derwin Shumate, 94, of Greenbrier, left his earthly home for his heavenly one, Thursday, January 17, 2019. He was born December 29, 1924 near Greenbrier, AR to the late Stanley Hanford Shumate and Zella Arlis McNew Shumate. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, Glenna Doris Blair Shumate in 2016 and infant son, Royce, Jr in 1957. Royce was also preceded in death by brothers, Melton Shumate, Alton Shumate, sisters, Betty Ferrell Pate, and Mildred Jeanette Rodgers.

Royce was a longtime member of Centerville United Methodist Church. He was a Navy Veteran, serving in WWII in the South Pacific. In his later years, Navy experiences were his main topic of conversation.
Royce is survived by daughters, Linda Arnold (Robert) and Bettizelle Abrams (Bob) all of Greenbrier. Also left to cherish his silly stories, teasing and gestures are grandchildren, Rob Arnold (Mindi) of CA; Heather Arnold of Greenbrier; Christie Abrams (Jon) AZ; and Stacy Abrams (Eddie) MD. He also leaves five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Special thanks goes to the caregivers of Seeds of Love and Kindred Hospice Services for providing excellent care for the last 4 and ½ months of his life.

Funeral Services will be Monday, January 21, 2019 at 1:00pm at Roller McNutt Funeral Home, in Greenbrier. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will be in McNew Cemetery, Greenbrier, AR. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McNew Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 124, Greenbrier, AR 72058; Centerville United Methodist Church, 76 Blythe Road, Greenbrier, AR 72058 or Springhill Baptist Church, 25 Hwy 287, Greenbrier, AR 72058.

Glenna Doris Blair Shumate, 87, of Greenbrier, entered into the peace and presence of God on June 22, 2016. She was born in Greenbrier, AR to the late Wincie Connell Blair and Clarence Blair. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Blair, and infant son, Royce Derwin Shumate, Jr.

Glenna graduated from Greenbrier High School as Valedictorian, and briefly attended State Teacher's College (UCA) before marrying Royce Shumate, her husband of almost 70 years, who survives her. She is also survived by daughter Linda and son-in-law Robert Arnold of Greenbrier, daughter Bettizelle and son-in-law Bob Abrams of Greenbrier, four grandchildren, Rob Arnold and wife Mindi Larlee of San Diego, Christie Abrams and husband, Jon Gay of Phoenix, Heather Arnold of Greenbrier, Stacy Abrams and husband, Eddie King of Phoenix, and five great grandchildren, Seth Arnold, Zoe and Rue Abrams-Gay, and Coffey and Mattea King, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Glenna was a housewife and stay at home mother for many years, eventually holding several jobs, before retiring from Alltel as a phone operator supervisor. Glenna was a longtime member of Centerville Methodist Church, serving it faithfully in many ways. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her special interests included genealogy, of which she spent many hours of research. She also was responsible for obtaining accurate records and gravestones for unmarked graves at McNew Cemetery. Glenna was a very resourceful woman who could make anything out of nothing. She epitomized the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and great grandchildren, learning sign language to fully communicate. She spent countless hours playing, entertaining, teaching and cooking with them

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Pastor Lana Gartner officiating. Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2016 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers include Larry Halsey, Johnny Mauldin, Denny Smith, Jim Dornblaser, Michael Dornblaser and Jimmy Gray.

Special thanks to the staff of Seeds of Love and Gentiva Hospice for her excellent care. In lieu of flowers , memorials may be made in her name to McNew Cemetery (P.O. Box 124, Greenbrier, AR 72058) or Alzheimer's Association (204 Executive Court, Ste. 301, LR 72205)
