James Lamar Cook passed away on Saturday morning April 23, 2016 at 6:27 a.m. at Bailey Creek Nursing Home in Texarkana, Arkansas.
 Jim was born October 1, 1925 in Eagle Mills, Arkansas to the late Huey and Blyth Cook. In addition to his parents he was succeeded in death by his son Lamar Eugene Cook, 3 brothers Lloyd, Marshall and Dorn, and 3 sisters Earlene, Marshalene and Francis.
 Jim served in the Army in World War II and Korean Conflict attaining the rank of staff sergeant. After returning from war he met and married his wife of 67 years Helen Eugene Scott Cook in 1949.
 He then began his 40 year career in the paper industry with International Paper Company starting with the Camden, Arkansas mill and later transferring to the Vicksburg, Mississippi mill where he retired all the while serving in his local church in various roles.
 After retirement he relocated to Columbus, MS where he loved helping people and serving the Lord. This led him to become an instrumental factor in establishing a Care Center at 1st Assembly of God Church which was later renamed the James Cook Food Pantry. Through the Care Center numerous families have received assistance with food and various life necessities.
 He is survived by his loving wife Helen Cook of Texarkana, Arkansas, son Jamie and Wife (Joan) of Texarkana, Arkansas, Granddaughter Kimberly Ryan(her husband John) of Kansas City, Kansas, Grandson Chris Cook (his wife Karen) of Columbus, Mississippi; 2 great granddaughters Madelyn Ryan and Maggie Cook and 1 great grandson Levi James Cook.
 The family will receive friends from 9-10 A.M. Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texarkana, Arkansas, where services will follow at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. Derek Youngblood officiating.
Burial will be at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday at Smackover Cemetery, Smackover, AR, under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texarkana, AR.
 Memorial contributions may be made to the James Cook Food Pantry, c/o First Assembly of God, 2201 Military Rd., Columbus, MS 39702.
