Mr. Winford Eugene Carter, 86, of Greenbrier went to be with the Lord Friday, November 23, 2012 at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab.
He was born Tuesday, June 29, 1926 at Wooster, a son of the late William and Pauline Davis Carter. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during WWII. During this time he also married his life long love Odeal (Hallum) Carter. He was a retired auto mechanic where he spent 35 years at Gene and Bills Auto Clinic, he then moved to Springhill where he started and ran Gene Carter's Garage for 20 years until he retired in 1996. He was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Odeal Carter; his brother Leroy Carter; and his sisters, Alta Bevins and Irma Dale Carter.
He is survived by his son, Don Carter (Dana) of Greenbrier; daughter Becky Robbins (Bobby) of Greenbrier; sisters, Reta Hoshaw of Conway and Gwen Whitaker of Greenbrier; grandchildren, Michael Carter (Melissa) of Conway, Michelle Gilmore (Stanley), Melissa Hamilton (Jason) of Greenbrier; seven great-grandchildren, Shelby and Whitley Gilmore, Kirk and Haley Carter, Landon, Kailey and Addie Beth Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews.
Eugene was a loving husband, father and Papa. He was a blessing to us all and will be deeply missed by his family and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held 2:00-4:00pm, Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Greenbrier (501)679-2575. Funeral service will be 2:00pm, Monday, November 26, 2012 at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Ed Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow in the Springhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Bivens, Kirk Carter, Jerry Clifton, Stanley Gilmore, Edwin Bivens, Jason Hamilton, Landon Hamilton, Drew Lupkey and Rick Whitaker. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Crusaders Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Springhill Missionary Baptist Church or Clinton Missionary Baptist Church.
