Elizabeth "Lib" CARTER

Oak Grove (Historic), Conway Cemetery
Faulkner County,
Arkansas

Feb 6, 1921 - Feb 27, 2005

Elizabeth "Lib" Wiggs Carter, age 84 of Conway, went home to God on Sunday (Feb. 27, 2005).

She was born Feb. 6, 1921, in McKinney, Texas, to Frank and Ethel Wiggs. Lib grew up in Helena and Morrilton and graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas) with an Associate Degree in business in 1941.

She married Robert H. "Bob" Carter in 1943 and they settled in Conway in 1947. Lib served as Postmaster for ASTC/SCA/UCA for 34 years, retiring in 1986.

Mr. and Mrs. "C" opened their home to countless college students throughout the years. If a student was sick, they were welcome to stay with the Carters. Sunday night was always open house for students, and Lib would cook a big pot of spaghetti to feed many hungry mouths.

Lib served as a chapter sponsor of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and was a member of the UCA Scholarship Committee and the UCA Half-Century Club. She was an active member of the University Women's Club and Conway Civic Club for over 50 years. In 2002 Lib moved to College Square Apartments as a charter member and served as an ambassador.

She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Conway for 57 years where she served as chairperson of the transportation and visitation committee for over 20 years. She served as a deacon, was a member of the evangelism committee, and a member of the Saints Alive group.

By all that knew Lib she was known for her kind and thoughtful ways. She never met a stranger and never turned anyone away. She truly loved kindness, sought justice, and walked humbly with her Lord.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank and Ethel Wiggs; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Pauline Wiggs; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Tom Tappan; her infant brother, Ben White Wiggs; and her husband of 48 years, Robert H. "Bob" Carter.

Lib is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Mary Carter, and John and Sherry Carter; her daughter, Susie Carter Wiggins; her grandchildren, Tish Carter Reynolds, Carson Carter Sellers, Michael Carter, Ginger Nix Douglas, Zach Nix and John Phillip Carter; her stepgrandchildren, Jared Schnebelen, Kyle Schnebelen, Brandon Reynolds and Bradley Reynolds; her great-grandchildren, Cameron Johnston, Tessa Douglas, Marley Douglas, Talon Sellers and Jenna Sellers; her nieces, Betty Tappan Payne, Paula Wiggs Schoppe and Shirlene Carter Jackson; her nephew, Tom Tappan; her cousins, Harvey Walters and Jane Cherry; and host upon hosts of friends.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Conway and a reception will follow at the church. A private family burial will precede the memorial service.
