MELBOURNE – Lela Dillard Yancey, 93, of Oxford died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, in Mountain Home.
Born Sept. 1, 1909, in Oxford, she was the daughter of Benjamin Carson and Addie Elizabeth Jacobs Simmons. She was a teacher, a nurses’ aide at Salem Nursing Home and worked for the Oxford School cafeteria and Oxford Cafe. She was a member of Oxford Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Sam Dillard of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Millie Helm of Oxford and Jewell Story of West Plains, Mo.; a sister, Hazel Goodwin of Salem; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; two step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Earl Dillard and Shelby Yancey; two sons, James Dillard and Carroll Dillard; a stepdaughter, Wilma Rains; a great-granddaughter; two step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Oxford Baptist Church with Gene Story, Author Barber and Duane Flood officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home of Melbo*Obituary
Honorary pallbearers are Will Bigler, Roger Sharp, Charles Sherrell, Dwayne Dillard, Darrell Ball, Jody Dillard, Breck Story, Dylan Helm, Bryan Dillard, Mike Norvold, Jerry Blevins, Don Dillard, Alan Sherrell, Jesse Cope, Lucas Anderson and Patrick Phillips.
