BRYANT, Clarence S. - Clarence S. Bryant died Saturday morning at the Love Sanatorium where he had been for several weeks following a breakdown, the result of Brights disease and complications. He had been in poor health for several years but his condition became serious only a few weeks ago. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon at 2:30 and were conducted by Rev. J.A. Womack of the Central Methodist Church. The Odd Fellows attended in a body. Owing to the failure of Eugene Bryant, only brother of the deceased, to arrive as expected, the body was returned to the undertaking parlor and interment will be made in the Rogers Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 3:00. The Odd Fellows will be in charge and members of the order are requested to meet at the I.O.O.F. Hall at 2:00 o'clock sharp. Clarence Bryant was born in Iowa August 10th, 1870 and was fifty—seven years and four months old. He came to Arkansas in 1894 and lived at Eureka Springs a year or two, coming to Rogers in 1895 when his parents, C.M. Bryant and wife, decided to make this their home. He never married and devoted the greater part of his life to the care of his aged parents, his father being a cripple. Both have been dead several years and his only sister, Miss Winifred Bryant, died April 27th of last spring at Mellett, S.D. where she was teaching in the public school. He is survived by a younger brother, Eugene Bryant, who has been in South Dakota. He was located at Watertown, S.D. and is expected to arrive here not later than Saturday. Mr. Bryant served for many years with the old Rogers Shippers Union as bookkeeper and assistant to S.B. Wing; then later with H.G. McFarlin and then as secretary. He was elected city recorder in 1910 and was re-elected some six or seven terms, serving with much credit and with a reputation for care and honesty. He was a prominent worker in the old Congregational church of Rogers and served both as treasurer and clerk. The older citizens of Rogers will learn of the death of Mr. Bryant with genuine regret for he was always ready and willing to help in time of sickness or trouble and there are few homes among his friends that cannot bear testimony to his true spirit of helpfulness. As an Odd Fellow he was often called upon to assist in caring for the sick and he never failed them if it was possible for him to go. He was quiet and unassuming and was one of our worthwhile citizens.

BRYANT, Winifred - A telegram yesterday to the Democrat editor from C.S. Bryant at Aberdeen, South Dakota, carried the following sad message: "Winifred died in hospital today. Start for Rogers Thursday night." Mr. Bryant was called to Aberdeen the last of the week but no particulars are known as to the cause of the death of Miss Bryant, who has called Rogers her home for many years but has taught most of this time in the schools and colleges of Iowa and the Dakotas. She was the only daughter of the late C.M. Bryant and wife who are buried in the Rogers cemetery. She was a woman of unusual ability as a teacher and was city superintendent and principal in several large Iowa towns. The news of her death comes as a great shock to the many Rogers friends. It is not known when Mr. Bryant will arrive in Rogers and we can give no funeral plans at this time.

C.S. Bryant arrived Sunday morning from Mellette, South Dakota with the body of his sister, Miss Winifred Bryant, who died April 27th in the hospital at Aberdeen, that state. Miss Bryant had been teaching in the high school at Mellette and her death was the result of a nervous breakdown supposedly from overwork. She had been ill for several weeks but did not enter the hospital at Aberdeen until a few days previous to her death. Mr. Bryant had expected to return a day earlier but the friends at Mellette wished to hold services there which were attended by the entire student body with which Miss Bryant was a favorite and the pallbearers were high school students. The services were held at the Community church. Owing to the difficulty in locating Eugene Bryant, who was in Iowa but on his way to Rogers, the funeral here has been deferred until Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock and will be held at the home on West Poplar, conducted by Rev. Ben H. Moore. Miss Bryant was born May 17, 1869 in Monona county, Iowa, a daughter of C.M. Bryant and wife, both of whom are buried in the Rogers cemetery. She was a graduate of Grinnell College of Iowa and much of her life was spent in teaching in that state, altho she also taught in the Dakotas and in Nebraska. The family came to Rogers in 1895 but Miss Bryant was here only during the summer vacations. She had many friends among the older citizens of Rogers and was admired for her attractive personality and charm of manner. She is survived by her two brothers, Clarence S. Bryant and Eugene Bryant.
