BRYANT, Owen R. - Rev. Owen R. Bryant, father of J.W. and B.F. Bryant of this city, died at his home in Enid, Oklahoma on Friday, August 13 after a severe attack of typhoid fever. The remains were brought to the city for interment by J.W. Bryant who had gone to Enid last week and the funeral was held from the Christian church here on Tuesday at 3 o'clock p.m. Rev. A.J. Taylor, presiding elder of the M.E. Rogers district, conducted the funeral service. The church was filled with friends who had come to pay their last respects to the deceased, whom they had learned in former years to honor and respect. Rev. Bryant was born in Tennessee on September 11, 1838 and died August 13, 1897, being 58 years, 11 months and 27 days old. He leaves a wife and eight children. The children are as follows: Mrs. Robert I. Jackson of Neosho, Mo.; Misses Dora, Lulu and Carrie Bryant; A.J. Bryant of Cedarvale, Kansas; Owen Bryant of Enid, Oklahoma; and J.W. and B.F. Bryant of Rogers, Ark. All of the children, with the exception of Owen Bryant, were present at the funeral. Hereafter Mrs. Bryant and her three daughters will make their home in Rogers. Rev. Bryant's work in this section of Arkansas has been very extensive and has brought him into contact with many communities. The following will show how much he has done, being a complete record of his work here. He was admitted to the St. Louis and Arkansas Conference in 1871 and to the Arkansas Conference in 1873. 1873 - Van Buren circuit. 1874 - Fayetteville circuit. 1875-6 ¬Presiding elder Bentonville district. 1877-8 - Presiding elder Harrison district. 1879 - Pastor at Harrison and Carrollton. 1880-1- Pastor at Eureka Springs. 1882 - Pastor at Fayetteville. While engaged as pastor of the church at Fayetteville, Rev. Bryant commenced the work of organizing an M.E. church in Rogers and to his efforts are due the erection of the present M.E. church here. He was the first pastor of the church here and he remained here for two years in that capacity. In 1885-6 he was presiding elder of the Rogers district. 1887 - Presiding elder Ft. Smith district. In 1888 he left Northwest Arkansas, where he had labored so faithfully and accomplished so much, and was transferred to the South Kansas conference where he was pastor of the Cedarvale church until 1891. 1892 - Pastor at Franola, Kan. 1893 -Pastor at El Reno, Okla. 1894 - Pastor at Enid, Okla. In 1895, after twenty-four years of continuous service for his Master, Rev. Bryant was superannuated by the M.E. church and he laid down his life work. Who shall say that after a life so well spent he has not now passed to that life above where there are no more partings but only one grand, long reunion./
