James Lee Smith, 75, of Huntsville died November 21, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Arkansas. He was born April 29, 1925 at Marble, Arkansas the son of Denver and Meda Spradling Smith. He retired from Scott's Family Center at Huntsville with 23 years of service and was a member of the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years.
He was a Life Member and Past Master of Huntsville Lodge #364, Free and Accepted Masons and served as secretary of the Lodge for more than twenty years. he was a member of Solomon Lodge #767, Free and Accepted Masons at Saint Paul, Arkansas. He was a Life Member of Huntsville Chapter #154, Royal Arch Masons, a Life Member of Huntsville Council #77, Royal and Select Master and a Life Member of Saint John's Commandery #36, Knights Templar. He was 32º Scottish Rite Mason in the Western Arkansas Scottish Rite Bodies at Fort Smith and was a past-president and former secretary of the Northwest Arkansas Scottish Rite Club. He was a Life Member of Arkansas York Rite College #142 and a member of Trinity Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine. He was a member of Scimitar Shrine Temple in Little Rock, the Northwest Arkansas Shrine Club and a Shrine Clown, serving as president of the Clown Club for 4 years. He was a member of Huntsville Chapter #487, the Order of the Easter Star and Amarant Chapter #13 at Fayetteville, Arkansas.
He was also well known for playing Santa Claus in and around Huntsville for more than 25 years. He was preceded in death on August 24, 1987 by his wife, Virginia Mae Tarr Smith to whom he was married on August 17, 1948.
Survivors include: three brothers, Fay Smith of Wichita, Kansas, Loy Smith and Don Smith of Huntsville, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 24th in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. Robert A. Vowell officiating. Interment will be in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home at Huntsville. Pallbearers will be members of the Shrine Clown Club. Masonic Rites will be by Huntsville Lodge #487, Free and Accepted Masons.

Mrs. Virginia T. Smith, 60, of 209 Drake Street, Huntsville, died Aug. 24, 1987, at the Huntsville Memorial Hospital. She was born March 7, 1927, at Coldwater, Kan., the daughter of Oliver Sewell and Mabel Markham Tarr. She was a retired hairdresser and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville. She was a member of Huntsville Chapter #487, Order of the Eastern Star, Mat-Ta-Nah Temple #136, Daughters of the Nile, The Northwest Arkansas Nile Club and the Northwest Noblettes.
Survivors include her husband, J. Lee Smith of the home; her mother, Mrs. Mabel Tarr of Huntsville; and one brother, Frank Tarr of Rogers.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim L. Durden officiating with Eastern Star Rites by Huntsville Chapter #487, Order of the Eastern Star. Interment was in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Milton Thompson, Douglas Dobbyn, Glynn Dillahunty, J.L. Owens, Bill Goodman and Buzz Cunningham.
