STRAWBERRY -- Leland E. Mize, 73, of Strawberry died Thursday, April 17, at White River Medical Center in Batesville. Born at Calamine, he worked as an officer of Peoples Bank of Strawberry for a number of years and was a farmer.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Smithville and was of the Baptist belief.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Mize of the home; a son, Robby Mize of Strawberry; two daughters, Linda Hoggard Davis of Stawberry and Peggy Doyle of Cabot; a sister, Daphene Hughes of Canfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tolah and Mildred Campbell Mize, and a son, Ronald Gene Mize.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Strawberry High School gymnasium, with Tommy Boles and Howard Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Cemetery near Strawberry under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Active pallbearers will include Steve Turner, Gary West, Jerry Foley, Donald Richey, Max Mize and Sloan Durham.
Honorary pallbearers will include Bernard Robbins, Joe Keith Robbins, Homer E. Mize, Homer D. Mize, Leland I. Mize, George Mize, Steve Mize, Frankie Campbell and Earl Dean Campbell.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

STRAWBERRY - Mary Elizabeth Mize, 81, of Strawberry died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, in a Batesville hospital.
Born Dec. 20, 1933, in Jesup, she was the daughter of Eddie and Freda Guthrie Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Eli Lindsey United Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to Leland E. Mize on Nov. 13, 1950.
Survivors include a son, Robby Mize of Strawberry; two daughters, Linda Hoggard of Strawberry and Peggy Doyle of Cabot; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; a sister, Carol Penn of Jacksonville; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Gene Mize; and her husband.
The funeral was at 10 a.m. today at Eli Lindsey United Methodist Church in Jesup with the Rev. John Stoll officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.
Pallbearers were Jeffery Massey, Gregg Howard, Robert Howard, Bo Hicks, Dickey Penn and John Hughes.
Honorary pallbearers were Sloan Durham, Nathan Howard, Charles Penn, Mike Durham, Denny Durham and Boyce Penn.

*Note: Mary Mize 16 Feb 2015 The Batesville Guard the day of her funeral northeast Arkansas was hit with terrible ice, sleet and freezing rain. The funeral was done in very quick fashion as it was terribly cold. Family requested no food or anyone get out. dgb
