MELBOURNE – Velma Fudge Dixon, 86, of Melbourne died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Calico Rock.
Born Feb. 6, 1917, at Zion, she was the daughter of Walter William Fudge and Carrie Leona Taylor Fudge. She was an educator and worked at Melbourne Times for three years. She was a member of Melbourne Church of Christ, Order of the Eastern Star, PTA and the garden club.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Dixon Newton of Melbourne and Diane Dixon Zook of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Lisa Newton of Memphis, Gary Newton of Sherman Oaks, Calif., James Zook of Atlanta, Charles Zook of Little Rock and Catherine Baker of Fayetteville; seven great-grandchildren, John Henry Dixon Newton, Lilliana Rose Newton, John Riley Baker, Thomas Deen Baker, Elizabeth Anne Baker, James R. “Jack” Zook III and Henry M. “Will” Zook; four nieces; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Dixon Jr.; five brothers, John Fudge, Elmer Fudge, Owen Fudge, Rayburn Fudge and Loye Fudge; a sister, Ollie Shannon Smith; two nieces; and two nephews.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Melbourne Church of Christ with Eric Williamson and Chuck Crow officiating. Burial will be in Melbourne Cemetery with arrangements by Eddie’s Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Blankenship, Jim Cooper, James Miller, Tate Lawrence, Eddie Creighton and Douglas Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Miller, John E. Miller, Fred Blankenship, Calvin Cooper, Virgie Landers, Maxcine Fort and Dorothy Teague.
