SETSER, Bethany - Mother Bethany Setser was born about the year 1825 in Buncum county, N.C. and died at her home in Benton county, Ark. August 4th, 1899. She was married to John Setser in the year 1846. She was the mother of 12 children, 4 girls and 8 boys, all of whom are left to mourn the loss of a dear, faithful mother, except the oldest girl and the youngest boy, who no doubt with dear father, were at the beautiful gate waiting and watching for a precious mother. She professed faith in Christ when but a girl, thus receiving in her heart at childhood a blessed loving friend to bless and comfort her in all her great trials through which she was destined to pass in after life. She seemed to feel the responsibility that always rests upon the mother. I remember as though it had been but yesterday when all nature seemed to be out of harmony during the war of the rebellion, when she would take her Bible on Sunday morning, and at many other times, and when her children were quietly seated around her she would read to them about God and Heaven and how Jesus, the blessed Son of God, came into the world and suffered and bled and died that poor sinners might be saved from their sins, and in the great day of the Lord have a blessed home in Heaven. Then when her children had gone to their play she would go to some sacred secret place and there on her bended knees, with clasped hands meekly folded to her breast and with eyes looking up to Heaven she would pray the Lord to bless, love and save her children; and when far away from home and in the paths of sin, far from God, many times did the blessed Spirit check me, and then it seemed to me that I could hear my mother's sweet voice saying: "Oh! thou blessed God of the skies, save my wayward boy." But we have no mother now! Those knees that used to bow in faithful prayer have ceased to bend on earth. The precious tongue that used to plead with the blessed Christ for her children now lies silent in the grave. The lovely hands that so faithfully administered to the needs and wants of her children are now folded in death. The feet that carried her so many steps in life's duteous pathway will walk no more until they walk the gold paved streets of the New Jerusalem in Heaven. Then shall those tired, achy hands be clasped in praise to God before the Great White Throne. Her silent tongue will sing the praises of the blessed Redeemer, there to know no more sickness, sorrow, pain nor death, but to enjoy the bliss of Heaven forevermore. To bereaved brothers and sisters, relatives and friends I would say mother always stood her post and trusted in her Savior to the last moment. Her last words were: "Oh! the suffering of this world is nothing to be compared to the great reward. Glory! Glory! Glory!" Therefore we know where to find her. May God bless and grant us all a happy home with dear mother in Heaven. John H. Setser.
