*Obituary
Rogers Democrat
May 26, 1921
G.A. Owens, known to the family and friends as "Uncle Dick", died last Friday morning at the Owens home on South Sixth street where he had made his home with his brother, the late R.P. Owens, for the past twenty-four years. Death was the result of a stroke of paralysis the previous Saturday. He was 73 years old. Funeral services were held at the Owens home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. T.E. McSpadden of the Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Rogers Cemetery. George Albert Owens was born at Newcastle, Ky. April 12, 1848. After the Civil War he located in St. Louis where he was in business until he came to Rogers in 1897 to make his home with his brother, R.P. Owens. He never married and was the last member of a family of seven children, being survived by two nieces in New York City and two nephews, Frank and Arch Owens of Rogers. Quiet in manner and retiring disposition, he was the soul of honor and old-fashioned courtesy. He loved to work in the garden and lived close to nature's heart. He was always interested in the welfare of the young people of the neighborhood, preferring their interests above those of state or nation. Failing health kept him close to home in late years and when he did appear on the street he was a stranger to all save those of the older generation, yet his quiet dignity of manner and geniality of spirit was certain to impress all who saw him. To those of us who had known him intimately for close to a quarter of a century, his passing is but the quiet turning of another page in a life well spent.
