Mr. Ernest Z. Perkins, aged 26 years, son of A.M. and Harriet Perkins, departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 11:50 a.m. Death was caused by heart trouble and fever. Mr. Perkins left his home at Hastings, Nebraska some three months previous to visit his parents at this place who were overjoyed at the arrival of their accomplished son. He having attended school at his home {Lincoln, Nebraska} for an indefinite period. Entered the Commercial College at Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating he taught a number of years, always beloved by all and gaining the confidence and respect of all his pupils. He then attended college at Columbus, Ohio to graduate in penmanship and was very successful. His prospects at present were very bright, having secured a position as teacher for the ensuing term at that place, making a specialty of penmanship and bookkeeping. Mr. Perkins was greatly elated over his bright future as he had just gained the standard he so long had sought and for which he had worked so hard to attain. He, from earliest childhood, manifested great respect for religion, yet made no outward pretension toward becoming a professor until last April when he was happily converted to God, and on Easter morning was taken into the M.E. church on probation at Hastings. Since then he has lived a devout christian.
