Mr. Poe had been in ill health for several months but had been confined to his bed for only about two or three weeks. He was born in Iowa August 30, 1854 and while young he moved with his parents to Worthington, Ind. where he lived until he was grown. He moved to Garfield several years ago. He was affiliated with the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges and was an active member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his widow, seven children, twenty-two grand children and two brothers.

POE, Mrs. John - {from Garfield} Mrs. John Poe departed this life last Saturday morning after a long siege of illness. Mrs. Poe had the flu over a year ago from which she never fully recovered. Other diseases gripped her and at last she was relieved by death. Everything was done for Mrs. Poe that loving hands could do. She has left vacant a place in her home that never can be filled. She was 69 years old. She was married to John Poe of this place in 1881 and to this union were born nine children - seven of whom are still living. All were with their mother in her last hours and at her bedside when she died. She was laid to rest at the Reddick cemetery and Rev. Martin of Rogers conducted the services.
