ROGERS — Harold Hawkins, 83, died Oct. 31, 2007, at a local hospital. He was born June 1, 1924, in Lafayette, La., to Frank C. and Lillian Hawkins.

Shortly after his birth, Harold moved to Rogers with his parents where he grew up, graduating from Rogers High School in 1942 then attended the University of Arkansas and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1943. He attended Vanderbilt University where he graduated from the meteorology program. While in the Army, he earned the rank of lieutenant serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1949 with a B.S. degree in petroleum engineering. His petroleum career spanned more than 40 years with the same company, Amoco, now BP where he and Helen traveled around the world while living in Houston, New Orleans, Tulsa and Chicago. He became senior vice president of Natural Gas World Wide and was CEO of the Amoco Gas Co. in Houston. He did consulting work for many of the major oil companies and for pipeline companies in his new companies Hawkins Petroleum and Consulting and Investment Inc. and Hawkins Resources Inc. for several years after his retirement. Harold retired and returned to Rogers in 1988, where he lived on Beaver Lake until moving to town a few years ago.

When his mother passed away, Harold donated his share of the family home to the city of Rogers to be used in the Rogers Historical Museum where it became known as the Hawkins House.

Harold was a devoted husband and father. He and Helen celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August. Throughout his 20-plus years of retirement, Harold gave back to the community in so many ways by serving in numerous charitable and civic organizations. He was past president of the Rogers Noon Kiwanis Club, past president of the Benton County Historical Society, past board member of the Adult Development Center, past board member of the Benton County Volunteer Ambulance service just to name a few. He also served on Governor Huckabee's Detention Correctional Facility Review Committee for two years. He was an active member of the First Christian Church in Rogers where over his tenure, he served as deacon, elder and board chairman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frank Hawkins.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of the home; two sons, Dr. Harold M. Hawkins II and wife Rene of Ocean Springs, Miss., W. Herb Hawkins and wife Loretta of Avoca; one daughter, Anita Humphreys and husband Dr. Michael Humphreys of Ocean Springs; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 at the First Christian Church in Rogers with the Rev. Chris Pulliam and the Rev. Ronny Nowell officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Rogers.

Interment will be in Rogers City Cemetery.

ROGERS - Helen Ruth Hawkins, 88, of Rogers, Ark. passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 in Rogers. She was born September 21, 1926 in Bentonville, Ark. to Walter Joseph Haxton and Helen Peel Haxton.

She graduated from Bentonville High School in 1944, attended the University of Arkansas and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After marrying Harold
Hawkins in August 1947, she transferred to the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in child psychology.

Helen was a loving spouse that traveled around the world with her husband while living in Houston, New Orleans, Tulsa and Chicago. She was an active, devoted mother, serving in numerous organizations including PTA, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She never missed any event in which her children were involved. She encouraged extracurricular activities as well as education in her family.

She and Harold returned to Rogers in 1988, where they lived on Beaver Lake until moving to town in 2005. Helen served on the board for the Rogers Hawkins House Museum and Bentonville Peel House Mansion Museum of which she is a descendant. She was a member of the PEO Rogers Chapter where she made many dear friends. She was an active member of First Christian Church in Rogers and thoroughly loved her Disciples Sunday school class and everyone in it.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 60 years, Harold Miller Hawkins in 2007. Helen is survived by her two sons, Dr. Harold M. Hawkins II and wife, Rene of Vancleave, Miss., W. Herb Hawkins and wife, Loretta, of Afton, Wyo.; one daughter, Anita Humphreys and husband, Dr. Michael Humphreys of Ocean Springs, Miss.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rogers with the Rev. Shawn Wallace and the Rev. Ronny Nowell officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 905 South 13th Street, Rogers, Ark. 72758. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services of Rogers. Words of comfort and memories may be shared at stockdalefuneral.com.
