Elvin was the son of Yancy Jefferson Barber and Ada Aldona Catherine Lamons. During the hard times of the Great Depression, he married Ethel Leora Creech, daughter of Jefferson "Jeff" Creech and Ora Lee Ellis. They had thirteen children: Billy, Charles, Donna, Gerald, Lannie, Reggie, Sherry, Lois Jane, Bernis Lee "Tom," Vida Mae, Terrell, Boyce Edward, and Betty Carol.

Elvin Barber, 93, of Hutchinson Mountain died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005.
Born April 13, 1911, at Hutchinson Mountain, he was the son of Yancy and Ada Lamons Barber. He was a retired farmer, logger, an avid coon hunter and a member of the Hutchinson Mountain Church of Christ.
Survivors include five sons, Gerald Barber of Hutchinson, Reggie Barber of McHue, Charles Barber of Jonesboro, Billie Barber of Benson, N.C., and Lannie Barber of Batesville,; four daughters, Lois Jane Weakley of McHue, Vida Via of Batesville, Donna Ramsey of Floral and Sherry Fowler of Jonesboro; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, a sister, Odene Clanton of Hutchinson Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel Creech Barber;, three sons, Bernis "Tom" Barber, Boyce Barber and Terrell Barber; a daughter, Betty Carol Knatcal; a grandson, Greg Ramsey; a great-grandson, Jesse Johnson; three brothers , Delbert Barber, Eugene Barber, D. J. Barber; and two sisters, Zella Goodman, and Arlene Clark.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hutchinson Mountain Church of Christ with Floyd Rine and John Wilkins officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Willis-Hays Funeral Service of Batesville. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeff Barber, B. L. Barber, Nathan Ramsey, John Via Jr., Joey Barber, and Britton Barber.
Honorary pallbearers are Archie Goodman, Denver Lamons, Doyne Finney, Bruce Barber and Larry Barber.
