John W. Thurlkill, 94, of Rt.2, El Dorado died Wednesday evening in a local nursing home following a short illness. Mr. Thurlkill, a retired farmer, had been a resident of Union County his entire life. He was a member of the El Dorado Senior Citizens Club and was a charter member of Mt. Union Baptist Church. He was born Dec. 14, 1874 and was the son of William Thomas and Mary Frances McGee Thurlkill. Survivors include three sons, John Rufus Thurlkill and Edmund L. Thurlkill, both of El Dorado, and Roy C. Thurlkill, Fall City, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Emmie Graves, Mrs. Martha E. Pepper, both of El Dorado, and Mrs. Willie Mae Fithen, North Little Rock; a brother, Jesse J. Thurlkill, El Dorado; a sister, Mrs. Fenie Hodge, Shreveport; 28 grandchildren; and 53 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mt. Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy Jones and Rev. C. W. Hornaday officiating. Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery under direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers will be John A. Jackson, Herby Pepper, Rufus Virgil Thurlkill, Stanley Griffin, Bruce Thurlkill and Charles Beasley - all grandsons of Mr. Thurlkill. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the El Dorado Citizens Club. The body was taken to the John Rufus Thurlkill home Thursday afternoon and will remain there until time for final rites.
