Martha was born 29 Dec 1821 and died 22 Sep 1899. She was the daughter of James M. and Sally Neal. On the 18 Feb 1841 she married Thomas Smith Evans. Her parents objected to her marrying the 'little dark Indian'. She and Thomas planned an elopement. When the plot was discovered by her father he allowed if she was going to marry him in spite of their objections that he would give them a big wedding. So on the above date they were married by John M. Parks, Esq. in Fayette County, TN.
