MELBOURNE – Mary Olive “Ollie” Shirley Evans, 99, of Mount Pleasant died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at a Batesville hospital. Born Jan. 15, 1902, at Polk Bayou, she was the daughter of Warren Shirley and Mary John Martin Shirley.

She was a homemaker, a member of Barren Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a member of Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include a son, James T. “J.T.” Evans of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Mary Ann Nicholson of Sterling, Alaska, and Margie Spalinger of Bakersfield, Calif.; a brother, Arthur Shirley of Little Rock; a sister, Clemmie Shaw of Wenatchee, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Ewing “Dee” Evans Sr.; a son, R.E. Evans; five brothers, Homer Shirley, Marcus Shirley, Wortham Shirley, Otis Shirley and Elgin Shirley; and two sisters, Dorcas Shirley and Verna Anderson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant with Alvin Wiles officiating.

Burial will be in Barren Fork Cemetery at Mount Pleasant with arrangements by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Nicholson, Tip Evans, Steve Evans, Billie Evans Finnie, Jennings Anderson and Tom Anderson.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Bray, Steven Bray, Ronnie Bray and Coy Bray.
