Fred's family lived in Newton Co, Mo until 1900 according to US Census record which lists them in the Van Buren Township of Newton Co. Fred married Carrie E. Cloud in Webb City on 10 July 1909 by a Justice of the Peace. The following is his transcribed obituary, published a week after his death, 18 Feb 1910.
"Fred O. Gallaher, son of D.W. Gallaher of this place, was killed by a dynamite explosion Friday evening at 4 o'clock in a lead mine at Webb city, Mo. Mr. Gallaher, who operated a steam drill, had placed the last shot for the day and was about ready to leave when the explosion occurred. Besides killing him, two others were killed by the same explosion, one man's body being torn into shreds. His father, D.W. Gallaher, and only brother, Vance, went to Webb City where funeral services were conducted Sunday morning at 10:30. They came in with the body Sunday night and it was interred in the cemetery at Elm Springs, under the auspices of the Odd Fellow's Lodge at that place, of which organization deceased was a member. Deceased was 26 years of age and had been working in Webb city for about one year and a half. In July last he was married in Webb City but his wife, who was ill at the time of the disaster, was unable to accompany the remains to this place. Besides his wife, deceased is survived by father, one brother, Vance, and one sister, Miss Leona, who is in Illinois and was unable to reach her in time for the funeral." - (The Springdale News, Feb 18, 1910)
Fred never saw his son, Fred Orville Gallaher, who was born in July of 1910.
